Photos of FW SRM's

All of the Hercules Filament Wound Solid Rocket Motors were cut up and used for various things such as play ground equipment. However, two still exist. The were mated with the drop test Shuttle and put on permanent display at the George C. Marshall Space Flight center. Most folks have no idea they are looking at these very historic SRM's which contributed so much to the overall success of the shuttle program. One bit of evidence is the number of joints. The steel SRM's, made by Thikol, had 6 joints. The carbon fiber-epoxy filament wound SRM's, made by Hercules, had only 3 joints.
